G.I. Memorial House
The Kannapolis History Associates G.I. Memorial House, also known as the G.I. House, is a lovingly preserved piece of mid-20th-century American history that offers visitors an authentic glimpse into post–World War II life. Initially constructed in the 1940s, the home represents the type of affordable housing built for returning service members and their families under the G.I. Bill, which provided veterans with opportunities for home ownership and education as they transitioned back into civilian life.
Located in Kannapolis, North Carolina, the G.I. House has been meticulously restored to reflect a typical 1940s middle-class home, complete with period furniture, décor, kitchenware, textiles, and household items. Stepping inside is like walking back in time—guests can experience how families lived, worked, and raised children during one of America’s most transformative decades.
