Preserving Our Heritage

The Historic Cabarrus Association is dedicated to safeguarding the historic buildings and structures that define our community. When a building faces the threat of demolition, we try to step in to salvage irreplaceable pieces of our past. In situations where preservation is not possible, we try to ensure that valuable architectural elements are not lost forever.

Our dedicated team works closely with professionals to carefully deconstruct old buildings, salvaging materials such as wood, doors, windows, siding, and other significant architectural features. These salvaged items are then offered for sale at affordable prices to members of our community, who can incorporate them into their restoration and rehabilitation projects. By diverting materials from landfills, we help to maintain the historic character of our region while promoting sustainable practices.

In addition to salvaging materials, we periodically host workshops covering a variety of topics related to home repair and maintenance. Cabarrus County is home to many historic properties, yet there is a limited number of professionals specializing in the restoration of these older homes. Our initiative aims to bridge this gap by serving as a hub for knowledge and resources on preserving and protecting our built heritage.

Through these workshops, we connect historic preservation professionals with homeowners, educating and empowering our community to take an active role in maintaining their properties. These practical and enjoyable demonstrations promote self-sufficiency among homeowners, allowing them to undertake home improvement projects that can be more cost-effective than hiring outside help. By ensuring proper maintenance, we help keep historic homes protected for future generations to enjoy.
