Lippard Mill

The Historic Lippard Mill in Concord, North Carolina, stands as a reminder of the city’s late 19th and early 20th-century textile boom, an era that helped transform Cabarrus County into one of the Piedmont’s leading industrial centers. Established around 1893, Lippard Yarn Mill emerged alongside other major textile operations, including Cannon Manufacturing Company, Cabarrus Cotton Mills, and Buffalo Cotton Mill, which collectively defined Concord’s economic identity for decades.

Located near the Southern Railway on the city’s eastern outskirts, Lippard Mill occupied a prime industrial site, ideally positioned to ship textiles across the expanding Southern Railway network. Like its counterparts, the mill specialized in spinning yarn and manufacturing cloth, providing steady employment for generations of local residents.

Though smaller than industrial giants like Cannon Mills, Lippard Mill played an important role in supporting the region’s prosperity. It contributed to the formation of surrounding mill villages—tight-knit communities where mill families lived, worked, and built their lives around the rhythms of textile production.

Although textile production in Concord declined during the late 20th century, the legacy of places like Lippard Mill remains woven into the fabric of the county’s history. Today, it is home to multiple small businesses, most notably Southern Strain Brewing Co.
