Located in Harris Depot Park, the Historic Harrisburg Post Office stands as a tangible link to the town’s long and evolving history—one that spans more than a century.

In the early 1900s, members of the Sims family, who served as postmasters for several decades, began operating the post office out of their family grocery store along Robinson-Church Road. For much of the 20th century, this small-town post office served as a community hub, connecting local residents through commerce and correspondence.

After years of use and subsequent disrepair, the historic post office building underwent an extensive restoration in 2005, returning it to its early-20th-century appearance. Today, it serves as a local history exhibit, housing a fascinating collection of memorabilia and artifacts from Harrisburg’s past. The exhibit is lovingly maintained by longtime residents and volunteers who preserve the town’s memories for future generations.

Visitors can explore the historic post office during the Harrisburg Farmers Market season (April–October), when it is open on Mondays from 3 to 6 p.m. The site also welcomes school tours and group visits by appointment.

Adjacent to the post office, a restored log cabin adds another layer to the story of early life in Cabarrus County, illustrating how the area evolved from rural frontier roots to a thriving modern community.
